Japan’s Media Arts to the World
The Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan organizes participation in various overseas media arts festivals etc. The aim is to introduce outstanding works in such fields as media art, video, the websites, videogames, animation and comics. Exhibitions, screenings, presentations and so on are arranged at overseas media arts festivals and other facilities with their focus on award-winning works from the Japan Media Arts Festival.More
2021Animation DivisionFor our online exhibit at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and MIFA2021 trade fair, we have chosen to explore the dynamic expressionism of animation using the theme “Expanded Animation.” The online program will feature screenings of films by Japanese creators, plus talks and panel discussions about the changing face of animation as a medium.
2020Art & Entertainment DivisionSeptember 2020, we launched "TOKYO GARDEN" website as a Tokyo online outlet for Ars Electronica 2020, Europe's largest festival for art, technology and society. We planed a wide variety of contents such as, talk sessions with different artists and curators, virtual studio tours, sharing archives and showing works of winners from 2020 Prix Ars Electronica and Japan Media Art Festival 2020. Join us online for an exciting virtual tour of the Tokyo art scene.
2020Manga DivisionIn collaboration with the Manga Barcelona convention, a special website with the theme, "Manga, diversidad e inclusión" (Manga, diversity and inclusion) has been created. The site introduced six works that show the diversity of Japanese manga, with a focus on TSURUTANI Kaori's work "BL Metamorphosis", which was the winner of the 22nd Japan Media Arts Festival's Manga Division New Face Award. We also holded online Q&A sessions and live drawing sessions with manga artists who create works on a variety of themes.
Expanded AnimationThe screening program will feature a selection of 24th Japan Media Arts Festival award winners that embody the spirit of expanded animation. Among the titles is “Keep Your Hands off Eizouken!,” a dynamic TV series that depicts the process of animation creation. The series demonstrates how expertise and individuality can come together to make something great. The program will also feature original short films that go above and beyond typical techniques and storytelling methods.
